Sarah Edith Ives received her M.D. from the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1898. In 1914 S. Edith Ives Cogan set up private practice as an ophthalmologist in Wakefield, Mass. She was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology Examinations and was a member of the New England Ophthalmology Society and American Medical Association. John Bingham Roberts (1852-1924), Philadelphia surgeon, received his M.D. from Jefferson Medical College in 1874. He then trained at Pennsylvania Hospital from 1875 to 1877. He was a leading figure in the foundation of the Philadelphia Polyclinic and School for Graduates in Medicine and was Professor of Anatomy and Surgery there until the Polyclinic merged with the School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania in 1918.
